Congress is pushing a tax bill that threatens the health care of millions of Americans and tens of thousands of West Virginians. Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act are at risk of losing funding.

Even with all of its tax increases on working people, this bill would still explode the federal deficit by $1.5 trillion. Legislators who massively increase the federal debt through this reckless tax cut bill would soon use that very increase as an excuse to slash Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA financial assistance that helps working people buy private health insurance.

To finance $338 billion in tax cuts for the wealthy and large corporations, the Senate has proposed to repeal the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) personal responsibility provision requirement. Without that requirement, also known as the “individual mandate,” average costs per insured person would rise, and fewer insurers would offer coverage.

Without the mandate, which keeps healthy individuals in the insurance pool, the exchanges will not be financially viable. It would be like only requiring car insurance for those who have accidents. Insurance premiums would skyrocket, pricing almost everyone out of the market. That is why hospitals, doctors, and the insurance industry warn that this repeal would destabilize insurance markets and endanger health care for millions of Americans

30,000 West Virginians will be at risk of losing their health insurance or paying much higher premiums.

CALL SENATORS CAPITO AND MANCHIN and tell them to please vote no on the Senate Tax package that will harm West Virginians.
