The West Virginia Hospital Association (WVHA), a not-for-profit statewide organization representing 69 hospitals across the continuum of care seeks a Director, Workforce Development. WVHA was founded in 1925 to serve as the collective voice of the state’s hospital community and works with its members in achieving a strong, healthy West Virginia. POSITION DESCRIPTION

Director, Workforce Development coordinates and advances efforts to improve the supply and retention of health care professionals across West Virginia, with a focus on key positions within West Virginia hospitals. The position requires a self-starter with the ability develop relationships, research and evaluate trends in the workforce that will serve as a foundation to support programs, and lead projects to improve the health care workforce pipeline. In addition, the Director of Workforce Development will collaborate and work with WVHA, member hospitals, and allied organizations to review and advance new solutions to improve the overall supply of health care professionals. To advance these efforts, the Director, with the support of WVHA, may seek/administer grants to support programs as well as advise and assist in implementing federal and state workforce policy.

President & CEO and VP, Quality and Data Services

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote and expand innovative health care workforce development programs and connect member hospitals to resources to aide in expansion
  • Support hospital efforts related to workforce development, including staffing Quality Committee workforce projects as directed
  • Champion health care career opportunities with local and state workforce development agencies and non-profits to help job seekers fill health care employment opportunities
  • Assist in identifying and developing system recommendations to remove employment barriers
  • Develop relationships with human resources professionals and other key positions within member hospitals and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate programs with member hospitals and allied organizations that implement state and/or federal policy to support the workforce, such as apprenticeships
  • Maintain and strengthen partnerships with K-12 and institutions of higher learning to develop and support health care career pipelines
  • Represent WVHA with all groups and activities working on and/or discussing health care workforce issues in West Virginia, and act as a liaison between member hospitals and allied organizations
  • Establish and maintain member services within area of responsibility including member relationship building, advisory communications and WVHA meetings
  • Grow and help to maintain Health Care Careers tools, such as HospitalSmart
  • Provide analytical support to research and evaluate trends in the workforce using a variety of data sources and analytical techniques
  • Monitor and interpret current and proposed statutes, rules, policy at the state and federal levels to determine the potential impact on the health care workforce
  • Proactively seek and connect member hospitals to opportunities to aide in recruitment, retention, expansion, support, training, and education of the health care workforce
  • Identify and administer grants to support programs

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

A minimum of an undergraduate degree in health policy, education, or other related field while a graduate degree is preferred.  A minimum of three years’ experience in a related position or field of work is desirable including human resources, education, clinical health care, or other workforce development. The applicant should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others; excellent communication skills, to manage multiple tasks; be self-motivated; and work with minimal supervision.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience level, and a competitive fringe benefits package is provided. WVHA, located in Charleston, West Virginia offers a hybrid office work policy to enhance work-life balance
