Describe how HIV causes clinical illness
List the risks of acquiring HIV
Explain how to diagnose HIV
Identify who should be screened for HIV infection
Describe the opt-out approach to screening
Identify the symptoms of acute HIV
Describe the association of the CD4+ cell count with the risk for specific illnesses
Identify when initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) is recommended for patients with HIV
List the preferred ART regimens for treatment-naive patients and the characteristics of each
Describe how HIV treatment is monitored
Explain why it is recommended to monitor for drug toxicity and check for drug-drug interactions when using ART with other medications
Identify key drug-drug interactions with the US Public Health Service guidelines preferred initial HIV treatments
