South Central Educational Development, Inc in collaboration with Beckley PRIDE, will host Making Health Happen during the Beckley PRIDE yearly celebration of the LGBTQAI culture. “Making Health Happen” A Community Health Screening and Health Information Event that brings in community health professionals, community resources and information specialist to provide health screenings, distribute health and prevention information, and have one on one health conversation with PRIDE participants.
Beckley PRIDE and Making Health Happen will be hosted at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway 501 Neville Street, Beckley WV 25801, Saturday June 4th, 2022, from 12:00 Noon to 6:00PM. This year Beckley PRIDE will have two components, PRIDE will provide entertainment, vendors, LGBTQ specific information and services, giveaways, and a host of activities to keep participants engaged. Making Health Happen will offer health screenings and health information distribution to the participants of the PRIDE Event.
South Central is reaching out to all of the Making Health Happen vendors to request your assistance in making this event historical. This will be the first time that a PRIDE event has conducted health screening and health information distribution (to my knowledge anywhere), during the event. I do understand that some vendors have limitation of service areas, however if one of your target population is LGBTQAI+ this is the event you should attend. PRIDE host people from all over Southern West Virginia, to celebrate their diversity and culture.
PRIDE 2021, hosted over 200 LGBTQIA’s, friends, families, and allies, it would be a great show of support and inclusion to provide Making Health Happen for the LGBTQAI+ community and show support for LGBTQAI+ health care and support services. Making Health Happen is 100% free to all participants. The goal of this program is to increases access to health screenings, to build a culture of health in rural communities, and to begin building relationships between communities, health care providers and community health resources.
