Big changes already underway as Thomas Health prepares to merge into WVU Health System
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Thomas Health System and West Virginia University Health System have announced a series of changes in recent weeks as the merger between the two entities moves forward, with Thomas Health expected to become a full member of WVU Health System on New Year’s Day.
Earlier this month, the health systems jointly announced the approval and execution of a “definitive agreement” to merge Thomas Health into the larger system. The news came about seven months after the announcement of a management and clinical affiliation agreement between the two health systems, and about three months ahead of the initial timeline that leadership of the health systems laid out at the time.
The addition of the Thomas facilities brings WVU Medicine into the largest population center in the state, and expanded services are already in the works.
