New Funding for Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program

New Funding for Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility ProgramApply by April 16.

The FORHP-supported program is designed to help Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), emergency medical services, clinics, and health professional work together to increase quality of care.  Also known as Flex, the program sends funding to State Offices of Rural Health (SORHs) that in turn provide technical assistance to CAHs.

It is anticipated that a total of approximately $30 million in funding will be available for 45 awardees to support CAHs in quality improvement, quality reporting, performance improvement and benchmarking.

SORHs that receive Flex funding will also assist facilities seeking federal designation as CAHs, and establish or expand programs for rural emergency medical services in their state.  Last week, we shared a report on CAH partnerships with local health departments. It was created by the Flex Monitoring Team, a FORHP-supported consortium of researchers who evaluate the impact of the Flex program.

A live technical assistance webinar was recorded in January 2024 to assist applicants in preparing their applications. The webinar is recorded and available for access.
