The Power of Nurse Creativity: Learning the Hands-on Innovation Skills that Can Transform Rural Health

Tuesday, Sept 13

2:00 -3:00 pm CST

From acute wound care dressings to delivering babies and geriatric medication management– nurses are trusted leaders in the design and delivery of a wide range of care in rural communities. They are closest to the community and closest to the challenges that arise, often using their creativity to adapt materials from the medical supply closet.

Nurses transform towels, tape, and tubing into entirely new medical devices, such as Nicole Wooden”s radial arm board for the UTMB Catheterization Lab and Cynthia Easterling”s loop lock device to stabilize patient IV lines. In fact, they rarely recognize this level of problem-solving as innovation and what we call health making. MakerHealth is fostering this local innovation and enhancing nurses’ innate ability to design and fabricate. MakerHealth brings smarter tools and training frameworks that allow nurses to start building a new solution to patient care within 15 minutes.

Join MakerHealth for a webinar discussing strategies that facilitate everyday innovation in rural healthcare. You’ll be invited to apply for the MakerHealth Academy Fall 2022 Cohort of nurses from across the country who turn their curiosity about health technology into a greater ability to use health-making skills to solve some of healthcare’s biggest challenges.
