2023 WVRHA Award for Excellence in Rural Health – Individual:
Stephanie Moore
This award is given to an individual in recognition of exceptionally meritorious contributions to the improvement of health to the people in rural West Virginia. It honors creative work of particular effectiveness in applying knowledge or innovative organizational work to the betterment of community health.
2023 WVRHA Award for Excellence in Rural Health – Organization:
Mon Health Medical Center’s Progressing through Postpartum (P3) Program
This award is given to an organization or program in recognition of exceptionally meritorious contributions to the improvement of health for people in rural West Virginia. It honors creative or innovative work in applying knowledge or practice for the betterment of community health.
2023 NOSORH Community Stars Award:
Sharon Lansdale
In conjunction with National Rural Health Day, the National Organization of the State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) established its annual Community Star Recognition Program in 2015 to tell the stories of people and organizations who make a difference in rural communities.
Since then, these inspiring stories have been shared nationwide on National Rural Health Day, honoring more than 300 rural health stars.
2023 WVRHA Outstanding Rural Health Provider Award:
Dr. Mark Wadell
This award recognizes a direct service provider who has exhibited outstanding leadership in the improvement of health care services to the rural areas of West Virginia.
2023 WVRHA Outstanding Rural Health Student Award:
Ashalia Aggarwal
This award recognizes extraordinary student initiated and performed activity demonstrated within the field of rural health. The nominee will have significant accomplishments in rural health.
2023 WVRHA Awards for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
Bright Futures Now!
This award is given in recognition of exceptionally meritorious contributions to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare in WV. We seek to celebrate those working to create a more just healthcare system for individuals from minority backgrounds living in WV.
Award for Excellence in Rural Health Professions Education:
Bob Foster, DO
The WVRHA Board of Directors are excited to announce a new award category in honor of Dr. Bob Foster who has devoted his career to preparing future generations of rural health professionals.
His career spanning 45 years at WV School of Osteopathic Medicine has touched thousands of students who have helped provide care for countless patients in rural communities.
This award honors his legacy as a stalwart champion for educating students to prepare them for rural practice.
